The Polarbear Studio Makeover 2008

1) The basement room as it looked just after the guys from Sandéns Golv had been there "float spackeling" the floor, ea levelling it out.

2) All the stuff in place before the big tiling session. Tiles, concrete, tools... everything!

3) So let's get started mixing some of the concrete

4) It's thick and not too easy to mix. And my power drill was about to give in 3 minutes before we where done. It started letting off smoke... Not good!

5) So here my father-in-law has started laying the tiles. He's a pro so he doesn't need all the aids I wanted, like plastic crosses, strings, laser points etc.

6) Half the floor is done and it's looking good. All that remains now is the other half AND putting in the "seam" between the tiles.

7) I don't know what second hand electrician did the electric work here once upon a time, but I do believe we need to do some rewiring! Call in Maries uncle!

8) But before we get to that, it's time to tear down the old disgusting wallpaper (see pic 1) so we can spackel the walls and then paint them...

9) ...and this is done by painting the walls with water a few times, with 30 minutes between the rounds. And then scraping them off.
There are many methods used but this one proved very effective on these old, dirty, torn, waxed wallpapers.

10) And then I have to get serious with the rest of the wallpaper. It just had to come down.

11) Father in law levelling the wall, that I just cleared, with cement ("spackel") and roughing the surface so it will look better once the paint gets on.

12) Now it's the details of the wallpaper. Small, small fragments of paper is still there and as I said before, it has to come off!

13) Painting has begun and it's a careful job even if both the walls and ceiling are being painted white.

14) So the first layer of paint is done, and FIL can take a well deserved break, with a cup of coffee and some toast.

15) In this picture I have started to attach the strips that go along the floor on to the wall, whatever they are called.*

16) This is what it looks like behind the lid in the wall before the electrician did what he was there for.

17) Lounge-, relax- and sound reducing furniture in place. This is just temporary so please don't comment on the style... I just need LOTS of fabric.

18) Three identical clocks I got from Marie to keep track of my listeners different time zones. Cool!

19) So the electrician has done his jobb now. It feels good to get some juice in the new studio. 4 new sockets all in all.

20) Details of the cut off water pipes near the ceiling. I love the brass style of these so I kept them.

*) Sorry about the quality of these shots but they where taken with my cell phone since the other camera wasn't available for some reason or the other.
